Dear Future Psychologist

By 'Yours Truly, Michelle'.

Introducing ‘Dear Future Psychologist’ (DFP) - an educational platform that started as a LinkedIn page and has evolved into a resource dedicated to supporting aspiring Psychologists and young people interested in pursuing careers in all areas of Psychology.

DFP was born out of a recognition of two key issues: the lack of accessible support and guidance for those entering psychology careers, and a significant gap between aspiring Psychologists and the vital information needed to succeed in the field.

Psychology is the study of human behaviour, making early awareness of its importance beneficial for society as a whole. By understanding mental health, wellbeing, and how to support others, aspiring psychologists can gain skills that serve others beyond their career paths.

DFP seeks to inspire others to explore what psychology means to them while providing practical advice on accessing careers in the field. We aim to dispel the myth that “Psychology can’t lead to a job” by equipping students with tools to transform their passion for psychology into a prosperous career.

The Mission

Throughout my studies and career, I’ve seen the need for platforms like Dear Future Psychologist to support aspiring Psychologists. Particularly in sixth form, I noticed there was a lack of guidance for career pathways in Psychology. This is not to say that this is fault of Educational institutions, but rather due to the lack of awareness and resources that relate to careers in Psychology as compared to fields like Law or other Allied Health Professions.

Whilst the competitive nature of Psychology still stands, I believe this competition is reinforced by the limited resources provided to aspiring Psychologists early on.

Dear Future Psychologist exists to bridge this gap, providing the support, guidance, and insights that nurture the aspirations of ambitious future Psychologists in a society that rather discourages hopeful Psychology students to even bother trying.
